BOOTS & SADDLE: A History

Boots & Saddle as we know it now, was founded by Bill Lesack, a retired acrobat who had been volunteering with the stations seniors show ‘2000 and Counting’ for several years. Bill was in his late-Seventies (77 or 78) when he started Boots & Saddle, and quickly changed the name of the show to fit his theme song 'Take Me Back to My Boots And Saddle' as sung by Screamin' Jay Hawkins.

Tim Brandt, became the shows second host in the fall of 2012 after Bill passed away. Tim, who was already a familiar name at CKUW, held down the hosts chair on Boots & Saddle through the end of Summer 2014.

Sheldon Birnie, a well-respected writer and an active member of Winnipeg’s vibrant music community stepped in as host in 2014 and continued to grow the shows fanbase until his departure in November 2016.

December 6, 2016 was the first episode of Boots & Saddle that I (Sean Burns) hosted. It took me some time to get my footing but by the back half of the following year things began to click and a clearer, more consistent presentation of the program began to develop.
